Q&A from Samantha Harris

Here's a fun little Q&A on our design process with Samantha Harris! What was your inspiration behind the design? The Caden Lane crib bedding was so adorable and fresh, that it became the jumping off point for the design.  After Katy Mimari, from Caden Lane, showed me some Parisian-themed wall art, we decided that was the perfect way to go.  I love that the room has a little edge with the zebra print, too, which keeps it modern and not too baby.  I wanted a nursery that Hillary could grow with. What is your favorite part of the nursery? It’s so hard to pick just one thing.  The chandelier is a focal point that exudes elegance yet the turquoise color suggests playfulness, too.  And the mural – how fun is that!  Especially because Tracy put some 3-D details on it like the rhinestone necklace and the flower accent on the belt. How was working with Caden Lane & Nursery Couture? When Katy and I met up after Josselyn was born, to plan her nursery,  I was immediately in heaven.  Her creativity, attention to detail and ability to coordinate it all was so helpful in the midst of my becoming a first-time mom and trying to figure out just how to take care of a newborn, let alone plan a nursery.  Katy really took me by the hand and made it all come together fabulously.  So, I knew there was no one else I wanted to work with to create a nursery for our second child.  We spent so much time in the early stages before the birth designing both a room for a girl and one for a boy, since we were not finding out the sex until delivery!  Katy was so patient and helpful.  Hillary’s room came out even better than I could have hoped! Did you come across any design challenges during the process? The “girl” room seemed to come together more easily than the “boy” room.  With the “boy” room, I could not decide on the mural and wall paint as quickly.  With Hillary’s “girl” room, the biggest challenge was just narrowing down so many ridiculously adorable options! Is Josselyn excited about being a big sister? How was her transition into her Big Girl room? Jossie could not wait for the baby to come.  The day Hillary was born and we called Joss from the hospital to tell her she had a baby sister, she went running and dancing around the house singing “the baby is here, the baby is here!”.  Since a new baby can take a lot of attention away from an older sibling, we wanted to do something extra special for Jossie while the transformation from blank room into fabulous nursery was happening down the hall from her own room.  So we found a beautiful big girl bed, nightstand and dresser from Young America and big kid bedding from Caden Lane that matched her former crib bedding.  Then the piece de résistance was the 3-D bejeweled crown mural!  We also added her name on the wall with some matching, fun letter art. You seem to do it all – balancing work and family! How do you do it? Any tips for other working mothers? (laughs) Boy, thanks!  As any working mom will tell you, it is all a juggle and constant challenge.  But, one that couldn’t make me more fulfilled.  Luckily, I have a husband who is equally, actively involved.  It’s a team effort. How about baby #3? Could there be a little boy in your future? You never know what the future holds, but we are very happy right now with our foursome. We’d love to know your favorite… Children’s Book – “Duck! Rabbit” Room in the house – Kitchen, it’s where we gather for family meals, conversation about our day, cooking together and even playtime projects. Activity with your kids – “dance parties” around the house and family stroller walks Must-have for a newborn – Britax infant seat and strollers! Must-have for a toddler – Born Free straw sippy cups .. They never leak!
